NASCAR, the National Association for Stock Car AutoRacing, is America's largest and arguably most popular motor sports organization. The body sanctions around one and a half thousand races on over one hundred race tracks in thirty-nine states, not forgetting Canada and Mexico. Perhaps the most famous of the televised series include; the Bush Series, Craftsman Truck Series and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. In fact, with the notable exception of the National Football League, NASCAR receives better television ratings than any other American sport.
It is easy to see why. The skilled drivers, the years of development time gone into the vehicles, the ever-present threat of a crash and with that the risk that all the hopes of the driver, the team and their fans will be dashed with just one wrong turn. However, for hardcore fans most of the pleasure that they get from this intense sport comes not from sitting in front of a television set and watching from a distance but from traveling to the heart of the excitement and planting themselves right in the middle of the unique, enjoyable atmosphere to see the races for themselves.
